I'm contemplating creating my webquest on the topic of US coins/coin values. I want to create it for Kindergarten and first grade students (so the hardest part will be finding websites that are on their reading level - or ones heavy in images, with few words at all.) It would be great to find some websites with audio recordings, songs etc.. something AUDITORY for them to learn from.
Ideas include:
~ Ask kids to be a banker and..... (not sure yet)
~ Ask kids to be the President & Vice President of a new country and compare coins from
different countries in order to create 3 coins for their "new" country
~ Ask a group of 3 kids to be songwriters and make up a song to teach kids about the US coins
(not sure how the webquest could tie into this really except being the research tool)
In terms of roles, each student will have a certain role.
1) Color coordinator: This student will research the colors of U.S. coins.
2) ?
3) Cent Sleuth: This student research the values of the coins.
I'm still in need of more reflection and ideas! Let me know....
I love your ideas. My favorite is the looking at coins from various countries and then creating new ones for a new country. Maybe you got an email (or read somewhere) that an island nation is looking for new ideas for their money. It could also be that the US, Canada, and Mexico are thinking about combining and having one type of money like the euro in Europe. I look forward to hearing what your design will be. :-)
